🍒The Eurovision Song Contest began on May 24th 1956 when just seven nations competed. The founder countries were the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Italy. The winners were… Switzerland!
💧Since those early days the the competition has grown in stature and recently a semi final stage has had to be introduced to restrict the numbers in the final. Still 26 Nations will be at the final on 17th May and Switzerland will be one of them. Last year last year in 2024 roughly 170 million viewers watched the Swiss singer Nemo win the final with his song “The Code”. As the host nation this year Switzerland is certain of a place in the final, and whilst winning it two years in a row is possible this years entry is definitely considered to be an underdog.
🐽Betting this year is looking like it will be exciting because there are many countries all in with a chance of winning the contest. The betting markets are suggesting that Sweden, Austria, France, Israel and The Netherlands have the best chance.

ಞThis year will be the 69th edition of the contest and Switzerland has always been a part of Eurovision. They won the first contest and this year will be hosting it. The contest is going to have the final hosted in St. Jakobshalle (Basel). It will be broadcast across Europe and even further afield starting with the two semi-finals on 13 and 15 May. Then there is the final on 17 May 2025. In total thirty-seven countries will participate in the contest with six countries (the host country Switzerland plus the "Big Five" countries France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) certain to be in the final. These six will be joined by the top ten from each semi final to make a twenty-six country final.

🗓️ Semi Final 2 Date | 15th May |

𒊎Switzerland will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 by Zoë Alina Kressler performing under her stage name Zoë Më. The song that will be sung "Voyage" was written by Emily Middlemas, Tom Oehler, and Zoë Alina Kressler herself.
𝐆As the host country, Switzerland automatically qualifies to compete in the final on 17 May 2025. This is good for them because without this there is no certainty the song would make the final. It was chosen by a public and also professional panel out of 431 entries. Priority was given to Swiss nationals or residents.
♌At the time of writing the odds on the song Voyage winning in 2025 are well over 100/1.

♛Betting on the Eurovision Song Contest is no different to placing any other type of bet. It is exactly the same process and we will run through what you would need to do here:
📖The winner is decided by a mixture of points coming from a public vote within that country and the other from a professional jury also from that country. The top ten songs that they pick get awarded points from 12 to 1 with the first position receiving 12 points, 2nd place 10 points, and then descending 8 points for third, 7 points for 4th, 6 points for 5th, etc, etc.
ꦏAt the end of the night whoever has the most points is the winner. There can be a tie if two or more countries score the same number of points and in 1969 that is what happened. The United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, and France all finished level on points and without any rules in place for what to do all four countries were the winner.
𒆙To stop this from happening again the rules are now that if the total points are scored then whoever has the most maximum 12 point scores wins (a bit like the goal difference in football). If that is a tie then who has the most 10 point scores, then if that is a tie who came third with the most 8s, etc, etc. If they are exactly the same after all of that then both countries win still (but it is incredibly unlikely!).
𒐪This year there are five countries that the bookmakers are pricing up as favorites to take the Eurovision title. They are all under 10/1 to win so stand a realistic chance and we have found the best odds for you here:
🌍 Country | 🍀 Odds to win | 🌐 Odds available at |
---|---|---|
Sweden | 2.75 | Boomerang - Bet |
Austria | 3.75 | Billy Bets |
France | 6 | Ninlay |
Israel | 9 | Ninlay |
Netherlands | 13 | Ninlay |
ꦿThese odds are all correct at the time of writing but are liable to change as time goes on and certainly once the semi finals have taken place. Only France are certain to be in the final and although it is very likely the others will be there too it is not certain. For the best odds it is almost certainly better to bet before the semi finals than after them, because logically the odds on everyone will come in once there are fewer possible winners, but it is up to you to decide if you want to first see how good the performances are when looked at next to each other first.
🏅Eurovision betting is not as random as you might think, there are actually several things to take into account and certain nuances that you may not have previously thought about. We will list a few of the tips and tricks that we have learned over the years whilst betting on Eurovision:
💃A very good, if an extreme, example was in 2022 when the competition was won by Ukraine That was not because the song was the best song in the competition. It was because the Russian invasion led to a sympathy vote from the majority of other nations. Whilst that is unlikely to happen again, you can see that having an awareness of the political landscape going into the event is definitely a good idea.
🌟Although it is a very popular event to watch and the number of people betting on it is growing year after year it is still not at the level of more mainstream sporting events. Far from it. For that reason there are actually only a few betting markets to choose from. Some betting sites will only have who will win, but other betting markets that you might find though are:

🍸Switzerland has been a regular at Eurovision since it started, they actually won the first ever contest. Since then they have taken part 64 times missing several contests because of poor results the previous year. They won again in 1988 and then most recently for the third time last year in 2024. The win last year came against the run of form though, Since the introduction of the qualifying round in 1993 Switzerland has reached the top ten only four times in over thirty attempts. It would be truly remarkable if they were to win for a second year running.
🎐If we look back over the past fifteen years you will see why they are very much underdogs again in 2025.
